We understand that participating in a clinical trial is an important decision for patients

Our goal is to provide patients with as much information as possible to help them make an informed choice about taking part in a study is right for them.

Please use the expandable tabs below to find out more information about some key questions.

Clinical trials are a vital part of how new drugs are developed. They allow clinicians to determine whether or not a new drug is effective and can make a difference in the care of current and future patients. Information from clinical trials is used by regulatory agencies to determine if a new drug should receive marketing approval.

For some patients, clinical trials may offer new potential treatment options when existing drugs have failed. For others, the knowledge that participating in a clinical trial could help develop new drugs for current and future patients is important. When deciding whether or not to participate in a trial, it is important to consider all the available information to help make the right decision for you.

The microbiome refers to the trillions of micro-organisms which colonise or live on the human body. In particular, the bacteria which live inside the gastro-intestinal tract – called the gut microbiome – are believed to have a significant impact on human health and disease. Some of the diseases which are influenced by the gut microbiome are those of the gut itself, such as irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease. However, it is becoming increasingly clear that the gut microbiome has far reaching influence in organs and associated diseases beyond just the gut.

Our live biotherapeutics are strains of gut bacteria that have been isolated from healthy human donors. They are taken orally as a capsule and travel to the gut where they exert their therapeutic effect. Since they are strains which are naturally found in the human intestine, they are considered to be very safe.
